My Grandmother Vickery's Crochet

Leading on from my previous blog, I thought it would be nice to insert a short entry about my grandmother's (Elsie May Vickery's) crochet.

I have also now put some of her crochet in frames on the wall.

She brought up 7 children (she bore 10 children but 3 died when very young) and crocheting was one of her main ways of relaxing. That, along with music (she sang and played the piano), whilst my grandfather played the banjo and violin. All the family would gather round for these musical events. The family also valued and shared in many other activities, such as reading and poetry.

Below are some samples of my grandmother's work.

Crochet

I have been learning how to crochet. It has been great fun. It was something that my grandmother Vickery enjoyed doing in her spare time and I have lots of lovely pieces of her work. But I never learnt it myself. Now I have! A different creative outlet!

Here are some pictures of what I have been creating - a shawl, a bag and a table top and blanket with granny squares.
